AEG L87695WD Displays "1" then "0"

AEG L87695WD

When I programme in a wash, dry or rinse cycle, it goes through the motions for just a few seconds then stops and displays a number 1 in the display. After a few seconds, the “1” changes to “0” and the door unlocks. No proper error code is displayed. Since the fault occurred, it has not gone away, i.e. it's NOT intermittent, so the machine is currently unusable. Any advice on this problem would be much appreciated - thanks in anticipation.

It sounds like the programme is aborting almost immediately rather than completing any proper self-check. On AEG/Electrolux washer dryers, a plain “1” then “0” is not a fault description I’d want to guess at, so the best approach is to narrow down whether it is failing on filling, draining, door locking, or sensing.

Before inspecting anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.

1. Check whether it starts to fill with water Start a wash and listen carefully. If no water enters at all, check the water tap is fully on, the inlet hose isn’t kinked, and the inlet filter at the hose connection isn’t blocked.

2. Check the drain system If it runs the drain pump briefly then stops, remove and clean the pump filter. Also check the drain hose for blockage or being pushed too far down the standpipe. A blocked drain can cause an early abort.

3. Watch the door lock behaviour If the door locks, then unlocks a few seconds later, the control may not be seeing a correct lock signal. A faulty door interlock is a common enough cause.

4. Try a spin/drain-only programme If that also stops within seconds, it points more towards drain, door lock, or control/sensor issues rather than heating.

5. Check for stored fault codes This model may have a service/diagnostic mode, which can reveal the last logged fault even if the normal display isn’t showing it. If you can access that, note the exact code.

6. Inspect wiring/connectors if competent Particularly around the door lock, pressure system, and pump. Loose or burnt connections can cause this sort of immediate stop.

If all simple checks pass, I’d strongly suspect the door interlock, pressure sensing circuit, or main control issue. For live electrical testing, module faults, or anything internal you’re unsure about, it’s best to use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
