Bosch Avantixx Washing Machine Not Draining
Hi,
I recently moved my washing machine out of storage after four years. It was working perfectly fine before it was put in storage.
At first, it ran it on a cycle and it kept coming up with an E08 error. After much troubleshooting and spending a lot of time watching the different cycles like hawk, I have narrowed the problem down to the following:
- the pump does not drain the water when the cycle hits the drain portion (there is no issue with filling the machine or the rinse portion of the cycle),
- when it hits the drain portion, the pump makes a crackly noise. I have checked the impeller when this happens and it is spinning,
- after pausing the cycle and manually draining the water from the front, re-tightening the filter cap and starting the cycle again, the crackly pump noise disappears and it is able to spin and drain the small amount of water during the spin cycle.
- I have manually tried a separate fill/rinse, drain (through the front) and spin cycles and they all work.
It seems to me that when there is a large amount of water during the drain part of a normal cycle, the pump is not draining for some reason and only drains when I have manually drained the water out and there is a small amount of water to drain during the remaining drain and the following spin cycle.
I have also tried spinning the impeller with my finger with the washing machine turned off and it spins with, what I've read, is normal resistance.
Any help would be appreciated. Having to set a timer to drain the water manually and then wait to restart the cycle is starting to do my head in. Thanks in advance.

Hi. I have a few articles which may be of use -
Using a washing machine that has been in storage
Your pump problem could be caused by corrosion or a build of dried out limescale and gunge. If the pump is definitely spinning the impeller, and pumps some water out some times, then there could be a partial blockage somewhere. Or maybe the pump is just not running at proper speed or can be stopped easily by a lot of water.
If the drain hose is connected to a plastic spigot on the u-bend I would firstly check there isn't any partial obstruction in there. If it is a new plumbing in check this article - washing machine won't drain water after being moved
I would lay it down and remove the sump hose. Check inside it for gunge, and check if it has a plastic ball inside. If it has, make sure it is clean as they can stick and seal off the drum. If everything seems ok check all the points in this article -
Can't see a blockage but pump not pumping water out
If everything checks out it could just need a new pump.

Hi @Whitegoodshelp (Andy)
Thanks for replying and for your advice. I have decided I will purchase a replacement motor pump and get a technician to replace it for me because I would have absolutely no idea how to do it.
Your help has been greatly appreciated.
Regards.
Hi. I would respectfully advise that you don't do anything. You should only look at DIY repairs if you are an advanced DIYer, or work in a job with similar or even greater skills than required for appliance repairs.
Need Professional Help or Spare Parts?
Hi Andy,
Thanks for your reply. I'm not the most mechanically knowledgeable person. Do you know of any videos that show how to do this on the Bosch washing machine?
Also for this, would you happen to have a link to any video that shows how to do this?
Thanks in advance.
