Can A Coin Break A Pump?
Hi all,
I am currently renting a flat with an Indesit washing machine. It wouldn't drain water so I called the landlady and she sent round a repair man. We have been living in the flat for 1 year and the washing machine seems to be 5+ years old.
When the repair man came round he found 2/3 coins in the filter with 1/2 small screws. He took those out and then looked at the pump and said that needed repairing. It was fixed.... no more problems.
However, the landlady is saying the coins caused the problem and that as it was 'negligence' we had to pay the cost. My question is did the pump just break over the years or was it the coins that caused it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If the items were in the pump filter then no. The pump filter protects the pump by preventing such items from getting inside it. Coins, or any other object can lie there for years and will only cause a problem if they attract small pieces of fluff or cotton which snag on items like nails, and bra underwires, and eventually restrict the flow of water.
If a screw was found inside the pump then yes.
