Hotpoint Hvl 211 Won't Work After Fuse Tripped
Hi there,
Last night a fuse tripped in my fuse cupboard.
Reset it, checked everything was working (i.e. fridge, freezer etc), but noticed that the washing machine had stopped in the wash cycle.
I removed the clothes, and have emptied all the water from the hose and filter, and switched the machine on/off countless times from the mains.
When trying to put the machine into a new programme, all the buttons work, all the lights work, but when the cycle is due to start, nothing happens, no spinning, no water, no noise.
Any help would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Paul

It may be the fault on the washer initially caused the electrics to trip but now the faulty part has just stopped working. It could be a motor fault, maybe even worn carbon brushes, but it could be other things too. You really need an engineer to test the machine with a proper insulation test meter to find out what caused the problem, which could be lots of different things.

No problem, at this time of year especially you can't mess around when it comes to the washing machine. Let's assume you made the right decision and if you'd tried to fix it it would have dragged on for weeks waiting for parts to come only to find it had blown something in the main pcb.

thanks a lot for all your help, ended up buying a new one after all that!
That looks nasty. It's probably worth a try though it's possible the short could have damaged something on the pcb. There's clearly been a poor connection which has caused excessive heating so both the interlock and connector block would need replacing. The wires would need cutting right back to get rid of all the hard baked wire and reconnecting with a replacement connector so it depends how much extra wire you have in the harness as to whether that can be done easily. Some wires can be re-routed to give extra length. The connector may be hard to find as a spare part though.

Hi Andy,
Thanks very much for your reply.
I had a look inside and found that the door locking mechanism seemed to be burnt out.
Do you think buying a replacement part will do the trick?
