Drum Won't Spin With Even A Light Load.

Hi there,

A couple of days ago I put a load into my De Dietrich and went out. When I came home the error code F08 was displayed. We tried a couple of times to get it to work but it would fill and then drain itself, showing the dreaded F08 code. As the machine is out of warranty my husband figured 'nothing ventured, nothing gained' and had a look at the machine himself. The belt was on ok, but then my husband had a look at the brushes, one of which seemed to be 'bent' out of position. He bent it back and refitted. The machine then ran a full cycle (on empty) with no problems spinning.

Today, I have tried to wash a load. I put a fairly light load in, the machine filled up but the drum wouldn't turn again. It sort of jerked a few times like it was trying it's best but still wouldn't turn. I've put it on again empty and it's gone through a quick cycle no problem.

To cut a very long story short, would all this be indicative of worn brushes? In the weeks leading up to the fault I did notice that my washing was coming out wetter than normal, as if it had not been spinning as fast perhaps?

Thanks in advance and sorry for the rambling post!

It sounds like the motor has a problem. It could just need the brushes replacing, but it could have other faults. Check out the carbon brushes section on my washing machine fault finding guide for drum not turning which leads to information on checking what a worn brush should look like at the end if it's causing problems. i.e, it needs to be not only worn down, but black and sooty which would show it's no longer making good contact.
