Hoover Performa 1100 Wa110 Clothes Wet After Spin Cycle

Hopefully someone can point me I the right direction here.
I did follow your DIY repair link but there's nothing there that really addresses my problem.
I have the above washer dryer. It seems to wash & drain fine but after the spin cycle the clothes are still very wet.
I've removed the bottom hose that connects the drum to the pump and cleaned this out (a hair clip; a 2 p; and some gunk). When I disconnected it I got a small amount of water out, maybe a cereal bowl full but that's it so I think it's draining and suspect something to do with the actual spin.
The pump itself I replaced about 2 yrs ago and more recently I had to change something to do with power (where the mains comes in something had blown - sorry can't remember what it's called).
I'm reasonably proficient DIY wise and I'm an engineer so have no problem dismantling and re-building most equipment.
The problem is I really don't know what could be causing tis so don't know what/ where to check either.
Any pointers would be gratefully received.

EDIT: Ok so I ran an empty cycle and it doesn't go into the spin cycle. Makes all usual noises (clicks etc.) but it's not actually spinning. I t does go round through the rest of the wash cycle though.

Some of the older Hoover washing machines had a pneumatic door lock which stopped the door opening if there was still water inside the machine. If so, make sure all the water has gone (although if you've drained it with the drain hose it ought to be). If a pneumatic door lock is fitted there will be a small plastic or rubber tube attached to the bottom of the door lock which you can remove to release air pressure.
Make totally sure it's disconnected from the mains and you should be able to open the door from the inside by taking off the lid and pulling on the door lock. If not (some were fixed type) then if you are scrapping the machine break off the door lock.

I have a similar issue with the Hoover Performa WA110...
The water failed to drain during a cycle, so I disconnected the hose and manually drained the water after re-setting the cycle failed. However, the door will now not open.
I have resigned myself to buying a new machine as this one is old and has caused me problems before, but I need to retrieve my clothes first.
Is there anyway I can force the door open? Is there a release switch somewhere?
Setting it to a fast spin results in a loud buzzing sound, but no spinning. The washer dryer is beneath a counter so I can't access the rear and there is only a hole beneath the front kick panel, which offers no help as I cannot see or feel anything helpful beyond it.
I would appreciate any help to rescue my clothes and my sanity.
FIXED: The second brush was U/S. Replaced the pair and all seems fine

Hmm...It's getting worse. The drum doesn't spin at all now.
What I've tried:
Cleared out drain hose & pump (water does appear to be filling & draining).
Removed Pressure switch and blew down the hose. Slight resistance but otherwise seems clear.
Removed one brush (the other appears to be stuck) and very worn but still shiney.
Going to get a better allen key to remove the second as I don't want to strip the screw.
I've read that these machines are prone to speed control module failure. Is that true. If so is there any way to check it (and where is it?)
Anything else I should be checking?
