Bought a Candy fridge freezer (CCE3T618FW) a year ago and the built-in ice maker has stopped producing ice. Really hoping it's a cheap fix.

If the rest of the fridge freezer is cooling normally, an ice-maker fault is often something simple such as a blocked fill path, switched-off ice maker, or a temperature issue rather than a major failure.

1. Check the freezer temperature first The ice maker usually won’t operate properly unless the freezer is cold enough, typically around -18°C. If it’s running warmer than that, the ice maker may stop even though the freezer still seems “cold”.

2. Make sure the ice maker is actually switched on Some Candy models have a small on/off switch, lever, or control setting for the ice maker. Also check the ice storage bin is fitted correctly, as some units won’t run if the bin is out of place.

3. Look for ice blockage Check whether the water fill area or mould is iced up. If the fill tube has frozen, no new water gets in. A careful full defrost can sometimes cure this, but protect food properly and follow the manual.

4. Check the water supply if your model is plumbed in Make sure the inlet tap is on, the hose isn’t kinked, and any filter isn’t blocked. If there’s a water dispenser too, see whether that still works, as that helps narrow it down.

5. Listen for activity If you hear no attempt to fill, harvest, or cycle, the fault could be with the ice maker motor/module, water valve, or a sensor.

Before inspecting any internal parts, isolate the appliance from the mains. If it needs electrical testing, valve replacement, or anything involving sealed refrigeration, it’s best handled by a qualified engineer. If you can say whether it’s plumbed in and whether the freezer is definitely reaching -18°C, that would help narrow it down.

SAFETY FIRST: READ BEFORE ACTING ON THIS GUIDANCE

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional. Do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts have sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you are not confident testing or working inside the appliance, stop and call a professional.
