Zanussi Fj1254W Error / Beeping - Help
Hi there
Can we have some help please.
We have a Zanussi FJ1254w washing machine which is going a bit crazy the washing machine has been coming up with error leds flashing 1 & 4 which requires pausing and skipping on..
Have run a clean cycle and we thought its settled somewhat better now its beeping again through the wash cycle but it does stop like when 1&4 were flashing?
Unfortunately we are back to the flashing 1&4 leds.
We have:-
Checked water feed all okay
Cleaned drain access on machine and cleaned out drain vertical stand pipe.
Drain pump working well with standard noise - drains fast!
Run a cleaning cycle!
Can you advise whats best to check?
Thanks

Hi there. On many older Zanussi/Electrolux washers, flashing LEDs 1 and 4 often point towards a heating or temperature-sensing issue, but I wouldn’t treat that as certain without a few checks because intermittent beeping/stopping can also be caused by wiring, pressure issues or a control fault.
Before inspecting anything internal, isolate the washing machine from the mains.
1. Check whether it fails at the same point Run a short wash and note if it stops after filling and tumbling for a while, or around the point it should start heating. If it will complete a cold/rinse cycle but stops on normal washes, that strongly suggests heater/NTC sensor trouble.
2. Inspect the heater area Remove the back or rear lower access if fitted and look at the heater connections on the tub. Check for burnt terminals, loose wires, corrosion or signs of overheating.
3. Check the wiring loom Follow wiring from the heater and temperature sensor back towards the module. Zanussi machines can suffer from poor connections or broken wires from vibration.
4. Check the pressure system Even if it drains well, a partially blocked pressure chamber or pressure hose can confuse the control and interrupt the cycle. Inspect the small hose to the pressure switch for splits, blockage or soap residue.
5. Heater and sensor testing If you have a meter, the heater should show continuity and no leakage to earth, and the NTC temperature sensor should have a sensible resistance value that changes with temperature. If the heater is partially leaking to earth, it can cause odd intermittent faults.
If these checks don’t show anything obvious, the next likely areas are the heater, NTC sensor, wiring, or the main control board. For live electrical testing or module diagnosis, it’s best to use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
