If anyone has seen this sort of problem before perhaps you might enlighten me..

It does sound like the dryer side is detecting a fault and aborting after it starts heating. On these Hoover washer dryers, flashing lights/display after 5–10 minutes of drying often points to a problem with airflow, heating control, or moisture sensing rather than a simple setting issue.

Before checking anything internal, isolate the appliance from the mains.

1. Check the drying programme behaviour Some Hoover “Sensor Dry” programmes do not let you freely alter the drying time in the same way as timed drying. Try a timed dry setting, if fitted, and see whether the time can be selected there. If not, that helps narrow it down to a control or fault condition rather than normal operation.

2. Clean and inspect airflow parts Poor airflow is a very common cause of dryer cut-outs after a few minutes. Check: - fluff build-up around the door seal and drum outlet - condenser ducting/air passages if accessible - the fan area for lint blockage If airflow is restricted, the heater can overheat and the machine may stop flashing a fault.

3. Check it is actually heating If it tumbles but stops after about 10 minutes, note whether it is producing any warmth before cutting out. No heat at all suggests heater, thermostat, NTC sensor, or wiring issues. Heat for a short while then stop can indicate overheating or a faulty sensor.

4. Consider moisture sensor issues If the sensor bars are contaminated, drying can behave oddly. Clean any metal sensor strips inside the drum with a little white vinegar or mild cleaner and dry them off.

5. If internal testing is needed The likely items to test would be thermostats, heater circuit, NTC sensor, fan motor, and wiring/connectors. If you are not confident with live/mains components, it is best left to an engineer.

If you can post the exact flashing pattern or any error code shown, that may help narrow it down further. For any mains electrical testing, or if the fault is within the dryer heating system wiring, use a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
