ZWT71201 WA -38 ver Drive belt slipping off

Hello community.

I have a Zanussi ZWT71201 WA. It was making an unusual noise, so I removed the back shield and looked inside the machine. I found the drive belt was disconnected from the motor and was completely wrapped around the neck of the drum pulley. I replaced the belt, but it continues to slip off.

There is no play on my drum pulley and the center bolt in it is tight.

From the front, the drum has little independent movement when I lift it up.

I would like to make a scientific diagnosis before I start buying and changing parts. Your advice and guidance is welcomed.

Interestingly, I had a look on espares and there is no listing for bearings for my model.

P.S. Can anyone point me to a service repair manual for the Zanussi ZWT71201 WA?

Thanks

Mike

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Zanussi ZWT71201 WA drive belt repeatedly slipping off

The problem
The washing machine made an unusual noise, then the drive belt was found off the motor and wrapped around the drum pulley neck. After fitting a replacement belt, it continued to slip off. The drum pulley had no play and its centre bolt was reported tight. From the front, the drum showed only slight upward movement.
Likely cause
The accepted reply said excessive drum play can let the drum pulley run out of line and throw the belt off. It also noted that some machines have sealed drums with unavailable bearings. However, the exact cause was not confirmed in the thread.
What fixed it
Check whether bearings or related drum parts are available for model ZWT71201 WA, as some sealed-drum machines are not repairable in the usual way. Assess whether drum movement is more than slight, because excessive play could misalign the pulley and cause repeated belt loss. No confirmed repair was documented.
Checks to try
  • Drive belt found disconnected from the motor and wrapped around the drum pulley neck
  • Replacement belt fitted but continued to slip off
  • Drum pulley reported to have no play
  • Drum pulley centre bolt reported tight
  • Drum reported to have only slight upward movement from the front
  • Advised to check whether bearings are listed/available for the model
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Drive belt
  • Bearings

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello Mike. Many washing machines have completely sealed drums and can’t be repaired now. Check on Ransom Spares and if it’s not on there too they won’t be available.

A little bit of play is normal if it’s only a millimetre or so but if much more than that it can throw the belt off by allowing the drum pulley to run out of line.

I put all possible causes of the belt coming off into my help article here
