Possible pump bearing fault?
Hello guys,
Having a bit of trouble with my washing machine. It still works perfectly but doesn't half make a racket at times. I've worked it out to be when I think it's draining the water out, it sounds like gravel is rattling around inside. I know from having many aquarium pumps that they make sounds like this when the bearings are busted.
I have googled and googled but can only find information about the drum bearings, do the pumps on washing machines even have bearings?
I just want a second opinion before I start spending money on parts as I don't really have any knowledge of washing machines but am pretty handy at fixing things.
I have made a video you can see here: https://youtu.be/7GnTPL16NqA
Note that the drum does stop and the rattling carries on for a second or two.
Really appreciate any help.
Thanks

AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Rattling noise during drain cycle likely from pump area
- The problem
- The washing machine still operated normally but made a loud rattling or gravel-like noise during draining. The poster noted the drum stopped while the rattling continued briefly, suggesting the noise was not from the drum itself.
- Likely cause
- Most likely debris in or around the water pump, based on the accepted reply. A pump bearing fault was suggested by the poster but was not confirmed in the discussion.
- What fixed it
- Check the pump filter behind the plastic kickstrip at the bottom, as the accepted advice was that the noise appeared to be coming from the water pump and could be caused by something inside it. No completed repair was confirmed.
- Checks to try
- Observed that the noise occurred when the machine was draining
- Observed that the drum stopped while the rattling continued for a second or two
- Check the pump filter behind the plastic kickstrip at the bottom

Check the pump filter behind the plastic kickstrip at the bottom. The noise sounds like it might be coming from the water pump. Possibly something inside it.
