Zanussi ZWH 7160 P - how to reset
Hi,
My Zanussi washing machine will not begin any new washing cycles, and the door locks as soon as it is closed with the machine turned on (not necessarily running a cycle).
Is there a way to 'reset' the computer, or force it to finish the cycle that it might be stuck in?
Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan,
There isn’t usually a true “computer reset” on Zanussi washing machines in the same way as, say, a phone, but you can try a few basic checks that often clear a stuck programme.
1. Turn it off and isolate it from the mains Switch the machine off, unplug it (or switch off at the socket) and leave it for 10–15 minutes. Then power it back up and try selecting a drain or spin programme first rather than a full wash.
2. Check whether it thinks there is still water inside If a washer believes it hasn’t drained, it may keep the door locked and refuse a new cycle. Listen for the drain pump when you select drain/spin. Also check the drain filter/pump filter for blockage, and make sure the drain hose isn’t kinked or blocked. Isolate from the mains before inspecting any internal parts or opening the filter, and be ready for water to come out.
3. Try cancelling the programme On many Zanussi/Electrolux models, holding the Start/Pause button for several seconds will cancel the current programme, but I can’t guarantee that exact method on your version. If there’s a reset/cancel function, it is usually described on the fascia or in the handbook.
4. Check the door lock behaviour If the door locks immediately whenever the machine is powered on, even when idle, that can point to a fault with the door interlock, control board, or the machine falsely sensing a cycle condition.
5. Look for fault indications If any lights are flashing in a pattern, note exactly which ones. That can help narrow it down.
If the filter and drainage are clear and it still locks the door immediately and won’t start, it will likely need proper diagnosis by an engineer. For any mains-related internal checks, use a qualified appliance engineer.

Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
