Samsung EcoBubble door locking and turning on randomly

I have a Samsung ecobubble washing machine and dryer.

It started leaking the other day from middle underneath with a 1 on the screen (not any other letters like the errors do)

I emptied the tray catcher at bottom but now when you turn it on, it keeps locking and unlocking the door mechanism and then will randomly turn the machine on for a wash, even if door is open.

Is this something that can be fixed?

It does sound fixable, but from your description the fault may be in the control system rather than just the filter area. The leak and the strange door-lock behaviour could be related if water has got onto wiring or the main PCB.

1. Isolate it from the mains first. Do not keep powering it up while it is locking/unlocking itself or trying to start with the door open.

2. Check for trapped water underneath. If it leaked from the middle underneath, remove the kickstrip/filter flap area and look for signs of water having run back into the base. On some machines, water in the base can upset sensors or wiring.

3. Inspect around the drain filter and emergency drain hose. After emptying the filter, make sure the filter cap is fully tightened and its seal is not damaged. A poor seal here can cause further leaking.

4. Check the door interlock area and wiring. If water has travelled onto the door lock wiring or connector, the machine can repeatedly lock/unlock or behave erratically. Also inspect the wiring looms underneath for dampness, burning, or corrosion.

5. Try to narrow down the “1” on display. If it is definitely just a single “1” and not part of a proper fault code, it may point more towards a display/control fault than a standard Samsung error.

6. If everything is dry but it still powers itself on or starts randomly, suspect the main control board/user interface board. A sticking relay, shorted button panel, or damaged PCB is quite possible, especially after a leak.

Because this involves mains parts and possibly a live door lock/control board fault, I would strongly recommend a qualified appliance engineer unless you are confident checking wiring safely. WhitegoodsHelp AI

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
