Hoover Visiontech washing machine fault
Hi - I returned to my washing maching to discover that the cycle hadn't finished and the pump was running. It continued running even when the rotary dial was set to off, so I switched it off at the mains and investigated.
1) I removed the pump access plug and saw the pump was running as it should, no blockages. Also the drain hose is clear at the sink outlet.
2) But when I pulled the machine out, there was water underneath, and also high up in machine after the back came off. I can see one of the detergent dispenser inlet pipes has cracked, which has resulted in water spraying around and into the base. So I'm assuming this is the root cause.
3) I can sort that out but why does the pump keep running? Is there a flood sensor somewhere, and if so, how can I reset it?
The machine is a Hoover VT 814D21-80
I'm currently drying the machine and hoping that will sort things out., but any tips gratefully accepted.

Yes there will be a flood detector that energises the pump. There should be a float switch in the base. You should be able to see it easily. Once you fix the leak and remove the water, as long as the float switch is still moving up and down freely, the pump should stop continuously running.

Also, potentially if the washing machine overfilled it could set the pump running, though I’d expect you would have noticed it overfilling. It would be a much more serious incident.

Hi. Does it have a baseplate fitted? It’s strange because if fitted it should be very obvious, but if it doesn’t have one, there’s no explanation as to how the pump energised with a leak.

Thanks - I'm not sure where the float is - I know what a dishwasher float looks like but can't see anything like that in my washer. BUT anyway, I dried it out, and fixed the leak (I hope) - and now it seems to back to normal - until the next time... Thanks for the reply!
