Hoping someone can help with my Samsung robot vacuum (Jet Bot) — it says wheel error and one wheel won't turn. Is it worth repairing or should I just replace it?

A “wheel error” on a Samsung Jet Bot usually means either something is physically jamming the drive wheel, or the wheel motor/gearbox isn’t working properly. It may still be worth repairing, but first it needs a few basic checks to see whether it’s just a blockage or a failed part.

1. Isolate it from the mains and switch it off before inspecting anything underneath. Remove it from the dock as well.

2. Check the faulty wheel closely for hair, thread, carpet fibres or debris wrapped around the axle or trapped in the suspension. Robot vacuums often get long hair wound in where it’s not obvious at first glance.

3. Compare both wheels by hand. The good wheel and bad wheel should feel broadly similar for resistance and spring movement. If one wheel is stiff, seized, floppy, or won’t spring up and down, that points to a mechanical problem in the wheel module.

4. Clean the area around the wheel thoroughly, including the side brush area and underside sensors. Sometimes the machine reports a wheel fault after getting stuck or lifting unevenly.

5. Try a reset if Samsung recommend one for your model, then test again on a hard, flat floor.

6. If the wheel still won’t turn, the likely causes are a failed wheel motor, gearbox, wiring, or wheel assembly. On many robot vacuums these parts can be replaced, but availability and cost vary.

If the machine is fairly new or the part is reasonably priced, repair is often worthwhile. If the wheel module is expensive or parts are scarce, replacement may make more sense. For internal electrical testing or strip-down, use a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
