If you mean the emergency drain tube at the side of the pump filter you’d need to remove the kick strip.

Hello Gillian. The kickstrip is a plastic cover that spans the entire width of the washing machine. Not every single washing machine may have one though. To work on the pump or the hoses around the pump you would going through the back panel or lay the washing machine down on its front and get access from underneath. Anyway glad you seem to have got it sorted although how these pipes are coming off I do not know.

Thanks for your replies Andy. We had already got that far, removing the little door, not realising that this was in fact the "kickstrip". The real challenge was accessing the area behind the metal housing: we ended up removing the top of the w/machine and fumbling down beside the drum to locate the drain tube. It took a good half hour to persuade the drain tube back through the original hole and to fix it back in position. Phew..... Thanks for your advice - and next time, warn the person enquiring that it's most awkward job on earth! cheers Gillian

Having said that they are not all exactly the same so some kickstrip's may need removing in a different way but you should be able to work it out if you look carefully.

Hi Gillian. At the front of the washing machine, right at the bottom there should be a plastic strip. If you walk right up to the washing machine it is right in the position where your feet would kick it, which is why presume it's always been called a kickstrip.
It should be fairly straightforward to remove it. You usually just have to gently lever it down and towards you with a large screwdriver. You need to be careful though because the tabs that hold them in place are usually quite brittle and fragile so you can easily break them if you're not careful.
