Zanussi - problem with drum
I just did a normal wash, nothing different than usual. When the spin got faster it made an almighty banging sound. When it finished, the clothes were soaking wet and there were bits of thin white plastic all over the clothes. The drum doesn't feel particularly loose but there is a lot more resistance, and grinding when you try to manually spin it. Grateful for any ideas before I book an engineer. Thank you

Hi. It sounds like something metal could have got inside, such as coins from pockets, or possibly the drum has broken or drum bearing collapsed.
If the washing machine was not previously noisy I’d suspect the first one. if it’s been rumbling a lately it could be drum bearings, though they don’t usually go so suddenly. It could be very expensive if the drum is damaged.

An engineer would tip it back and forth and side to side to see if they can hear anything sliding about, and check inside the sump hose. If the door seal has come off maybe the drum just went crazy from a very badly balanced load.
Unfortunately it’s likely to need someone who knows what they are looking for to thoroughly examine it. It’s pretty much impossible to accurately work out what went wrong and why unless you are an experienced engineer.

I've actually just run my hand round the rubber lining and I think it's come away at the top, it is does feel quote loose if you push the top of the drum
