Drive Fan Belt Come Off
The belt on my Hotpoint 800 Electronic 9506(old) has come off. How do I get it back on, and where does it go? Thanks.

Belts don't often come off a washing machine without a reason but it is possible that nothing else is wrong, so try re-fitting it. If the belt is not badly frayed, it may go back on OK and stay on. If the washing machine has been noisy on spin recently, then it's possible that the drum bearings have collapsed. This causes up and down play in the drum, and on spin the drum pulley (which the belt goes round) runs wobbly and throws off the belt.
With the washing machine unplugged! loop the belt over the shaft at the end of the motor. Then feed the belt over the top of the drum pulley and slowly turn the pulley clockwise. This should feed the belt all the way round. It can be tricky if the belt tension is tight and you will need to take the back panel off to get to it properly. On later Hotpoint washing machines, instead of a proper back panel there is only a small inspection panel at the back and the motor is at the bottom of the tub. This makes it very difficult to replace the belt and can result in cuts to the hands. If having difficulty, loop the belt over the motor shaft and start feeding it over the drum pulley. Use a cable tie to secure the belt to the pulley, which will allow you to let go with one hand. With the other hand, reach over to the front of the washer and turn the drum using the paddles on the drum to feed the belt onto the pulley. Then cut off the cable tie.
