Bought a Samsung robot vacuum two years ago and it just turns in circles and stops with an error. Would really appreciate any advice before I fork out for a callout.

If a Samsung Jet Bot is just spinning in circles then stopping, the fault is usually with one of the sensors, a drive wheel issue, or the front bumper/turret not reporting correctly. You can do a few sensible checks before paying for a callout.

1. Isolate it first Unplug the charger and switch the robot off before inspecting anything underneath or removing parts.

2. Check for a jammed wheel Turn it over and make sure both drive wheels spring up and down freely. Spin them by hand and compare both sides. If one wheel is stiff, loose, or not turning properly, the robot will often circle because it thinks one side is moving differently.

3. Clean all sensors thoroughly Wipe the cliff sensors underneath, any front sensors, and the navigation sensor/turret area with a soft dry cloth. Built-up dust, polish residue, or pet hair can confuse it and make it spin or stop with an error.

4. Inspect the side brush and main brush area Remove hair, thread, and fluff from the side brush, brush roller, and wheel axles. A side brush wrapped tightly can sometimes affect movement.

5. Check the bumper Press the front bumper in and out. It should move freely and click back evenly. If it is stuck on one side, the robot may think it has hit an obstacle and keep turning.

6. Try a reset and test in a simple area If the manual gives a reset procedure, try that, then test it on a clear, well-lit floor away from black rugs, mirrors, and shiny surfaces.

If it still does the same, the likely causes are a faulty wheel motor/encoder, bumper sensor, or navigation sensor, which would need proper diagnosis. For any internal electrical work, use a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
