Dreame robot vacuum won't turn on at all?
My Dreame robot vacuum (D9), about 6 months old — it's completely unresponsive and won't start even on the dock. What should I check first?
1 Answer
If a Dreame D9 is completely dead, start with the simple power and charging checks first. A totally unresponsive robot can be caused by the dock, power supply, battery connection, or a battery protection shutdown.
1. Check the mains supply and dock Make sure the socket is live by trying another appliance in it. Confirm the dock’s plug and low-voltage lead are firmly connected and not damaged. If the dock has any indicator light, check whether it is on.
2. Clean the charging contacts Dirty or oxidised contacts are very common. Clean the metal contacts on both the robot and dock with a dry cloth or a cloth slightly dampened with isopropyl alcohol, then dry them fully.
3. Re-seat the robot on the dock properly Place it squarely onto the charging base and leave it for at least 30 minutes. If it has been deeply discharged, it may not respond immediately.
4. Try a forced restart Press and hold the power button for around 10–15 seconds. If your model has a small reset pinhole, try that as well, but only if shown in the user manual.
5. Check for signs of life off the dock Listen for any tones, LEDs, or brief flashes when pressing the button. Even a momentary response helps point towards a battery or charging issue rather than a dead main board.
6. Inspect internally only if confident Isolate it from the mains first. If you remove the battery cover, check the battery plug hasn’t come loose in transit or after a knock. As it is only 6 months old, avoid invasive work if it may affect warranty.
If it still shows absolutely nothing, the likely suspects are the charger/dock, battery pack, or main PCB. Because it’s under warranty, I’d strongly suggest contacting Dreame or the retailer before dismantling further. Any mains-related testing should be left to a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
