Samsung robot vacuum won't charge or return to dock
Bought a Samsung robot vacuum (Jet Bot) a year ago and it won't dock itself and won't charge even when I sit it on the dock manually. Is this something I can fix myself or do I need an engineer?
1 Answer
If it won’t return to the dock and also won’t charge when placed on it manually, the fault could be with the dock, the robot’s charging contacts/sensors, the power supply, or the battery. A few basic checks may narrow it down before you decide on repair.
1. Check the dock has power Make sure the charging station is definitely live at the socket and any adaptor/transformer is connected properly. If there’s a power light on the dock, see whether it’s lit as normal.
2. Clean the charging contacts On both the dock and the underside of the Jet Bot, clean the metal charging strips/pins with a soft cloth. If they’re tarnished, a little isopropyl alcohol on the cloth can help. Dirty or oxidised contacts are a common cause.
3. Check the docking area and sensors Make sure the dock is positioned exactly as Samsung recommend, with clear space around it and no dark flooring, mirrors, strong sunlight, or clutter interfering. Wipe the robot’s sensors and the dock’s locating window/sensor area too.
4. Try a proper reset/restart Power the robot fully off and back on if the model allows it, then try sending it home again from close to the dock.
5. Consider battery or internal charging fault If it still won’t take any charge at all, the battery, charging circuit, or dock electronics may have failed. After only a year, this may be worth checking under warranty/consumer rights first.
Safety reminder: isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting or cleaning any internal parts. For mains-related electrical faults or internal repair, use a qualified engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice
Never work on a live appliance
Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.
Never attempt gas work
By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.
Watch for sharp edges
Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.
Water appliances can leak
Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.
Know your limits
If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
