No Manufacturer Carbon Brushes Available, Any Options?
Hi, I have an older top-loading washing machine (Cylinda TP 80) where the drum has stopped turning or gives a few slow turns before stopping. I'm assuming the issue is with the carbon brushes and when I look I can in fact see that they're quite worn down. After contacting Cylinda however they say that there are no brushes available for this model, do I have any options here? I'm pretty new to this kind of repair, is it possible that another similar brush might fit or am I out of luck? Thanks!

Hello. If there are no carbon brushes available there is not much you can do, assuming it is the carbon brushes. Carbon brushes should always be available unless the machine is so old they have stopped supplying parts. Some washing machines have a different type of motor which does not have carbon brushes called an induction motor. However, if this was the case I would expect them to have advised about that rather than just say there are no brushes available. If it did have an induction motor you can usually only buy complete motor which is usually very expensive.
Without knowing if it is the brushes or another fault you cannot make any decision. So you need to get it checked out, or try to take the motor often see if the brushes have gone are not. I do have an article describing how to check carbon brushes. It is written for the specific brand but relevant for any carbon brush.

As far as I know Cylinda isn't a manufacturer, what brand or manufacturer makes the machine? Is it Asko by any chance?
