AEG 64840L Error 40 (is not door catch)
My AEG 64840L shows Error 40. Intensive Googling indicates door switch. I have changed the door switch and checked that the door signal is received at the PCB, an EWM2100. I found one broken wire to the main motor plug , red wire goes to pin 8, J7 on PCB. Re attached, still no go. Motor brushes are perfect. I changed the PCB. The drain pump works fine when the overflow float is raised. If I disconnect the door switch - E52 appears as a fault. I am unsure now what E40 refers to. Does anyone have the correct Error codes or have any advice?

My AEG error code list, which is quite old now, shows E41 as possible faulty door lock. E40 isn't even listed. Not much help but there it is. My advice with many of these error codes is to get an engineer in. With AEG and Zanussi in particular using error codes that implicate far too many possible faults for DIY repair. For example the Error 41 I have listed says -
"Door unlocked: Door lock faulty, Wiring faulty, Main (PCB) board faulty, Cycle is paused start"
That's way too many possibilities to start speculatively changing parts. It's OK if you are an AEG engineer and have all the parts on your van to try. But buying them - especially the main PCB is just way too much of a gamble, as unfortunately you've found
My book (10 years old now) says E52 is -
"No signal from motor tachometer generator: Motor faulty, wiring faulty, PCB faulty, Cycle blocked, door locked (after 5 attempts) OFF/reset"
As you can see, most unhelpful. It's even a pain for engineers.

Thanks for that. I came to the conclusion the code meant little. I've had S/H parts from Ebay so little expense incurred yet. I'll post again if I find it - it's a challenge.
