How to mount tension-ring (AEG 74600)?

I'm struggling with how to mount the tension ring around the rubber washing machine seal of our AEG 74600. Does anyone have any suggestions, and is the spring part supposed to be at the bottom (under the rubber flap) as seen in the photo below?

That looks OK. I don't think it really matters much, it's only there to retain the door seal on the door rim.

Just place the ring around the door seal groove at 12 o'clock with the spring at 6 o'clock. Then feed the ring as much round the door seal as possible. When you get to the last section just use a small flat blade screwdriver to insert inside and sort of lift and full and stretch to force the rest of the ring into place. It should be quite easy really.

No, I haven't really tried it again. There's probably a very simple trick to it once you know how

Is it back on now?

Yes, the washing machine works fine without it, but sometimes when emptying it the rubber seal gets pulled out and I need to reattach it which is always a hassle. With the ring it stays there. There must be a smart method of reattaching it.
