Bosch WFO-2050/01 - all programs go to the rinse cycle. No error codes shown.

I've had a look at the Troubleshooting page but could not find a section which relates to this problem.

We've had this machine for 17 years now and although the body is rusting underneath the soap drawer, it still worked smoothly until a couple of days ago when any program used simply goes to the rinse program. We usually use either the 30 or 40 Cotton program with the Quick wash button and the Reduce Ironing buttons. Both the 30 and 40 degree programs take around 53 to 59 minutes.

A couple of days ago any program be it from the Cottons section, delicates etc. simple shows 20 minutes on the display and the machine performs a rinse cycle. I checked for blockages by removing the filter at the bottom after draining and for once the machine used the proper program but for the next wash, the rinse program was performed. I noticed that the programs dial does show the right time on the display if I jiggle it slowly between clicks but even if the proper time is shown, once the machine starts, it goes back to 20 minutes which is the usual time for the rinse cycle. The rinse cycle, both if explicitly chosen through the dial or otherwise, draws in water and spins and ends normally.

Any tips as to where to check further? The machine was recently given a full length 60 degree program with no load which is something we do every 3 months approximately. About a year ago I also removed and checked all hoses etc. after the machine had developed an issue and this forum helped me to rectify the problem.
