John Lewis Washing Machine - JLBIWM1402 - cleaning filter / water in tray

Hi All,

I have a John Lewis Washing Machine JLBIWM1402. I have two questions:

1. The washing machine has a white water pump cap and to the right a grey emergency hose. What is the purpose of the emergency hose and would there be an issue if I removed the cap of the white water pump before the grey emergency hose to take the water out?

2. I have noticed water collecting in the water softener tray after each wash. How fix this and is it related to the above?

Thanks

S

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

JLBIWM1402 emergency drain hose use and water left in softener tray

The problem
The owner of a John Lewis washing machine JLBIWM1402 asked what the grey emergency hose beside the white pump cap is for, whether the pump cap could be opened first to remove water, and why water remains in the fabric softener tray after each wash.
Likely cause
The grey hose is an emergency drain provided for draining the machine if it becomes stuck full of water because it has not pumped out. Water left in the fabric softener tray was described as unrelated to the pump area issue; no specific fault in the tray system was confirmed in the discussion.
What fixed it
Use the emergency hose to drain the machine if it ever breaks down and remains full of water. The discussion did not confirm any repair to the softener tray issue, only that it is unrelated to the pump drain hose question.
Checks to try
  • Grey emergency hose is beside the water pump
  • White water pump cap present
  • Water collecting in the water softener tray after each wash
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Emergency drain hose
  • Water pump cap
  • Baking tray

Safety: If the machine is stuck full of water or the exact cause of poor draining is unclear, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello Sophie. The emergency hose at the side of the water pump is to allow you to drain the washing machine in the event of the washing machine getting stuck full of water because the water hasn't pumped away. If ever the washing machine breaks down and is stuck full of water you can remove the plug from this small hose and drain it into a baking tray or something appropriate. It's a slow process but at least it should get rid of the water.

The fabric softener is totally unrelated and the reason there is water still left in the tray after each wash is explained in my article here fabric softener compartment full of water after washer has finished
