Beko WTG741M1B unlocking issue

Hi all

We’ve got a ~30 month old Beko WTG741M1B which won’t unlock after finishing a cycle.

The machine appears to drain correctly, I’ve checked the impeller spins by opening up the cap used to clear obstructions and watching it spin on a drain cycle. I can also feel hot water leaving the hose and entering the trap under the sink.

The machine unlocks if switched off at the wall and there doesn’t appear to be any water left in the drum on doing so.

Can anyone suggest anything else to check before we resort to calling someone out to fix?

Thanks in advance

Tom

Hello Tom. Very strange. If it unlocks when you unplug it from the wall then the problem must be associated with the controller not removing power from door lock when it it has finished a cycle. Does it do the same after a spin only cycle? And also when it has finished and refuses to unlock the door, can you see that it has definitely finished properly is not stuck on something?

Very annoying fault. The door lock is normally a bi-metal device. When power is given to it a coil inside warms up a bi-metal strip which bends. When it bends it makes an electrical contact and puts a peg in place that stops the door from opening.

So when it’s finished the cycle power is cut from it. The bi metal strip cooked down over a couple of minutes and returns to its straight position. This removes the block on opening the door.

If the door lock jams that’s a fault inside the door lock. But if it unjams when the machine is unplugged it suggests it’s staying locked because it’s still being energised.

Hi Andy

Thanks for the response.

Yeah it happens on any cycle.

On a spin cycle the screen will display “end” when it finishes but then the end disappears after a couple of minutes and it refuses to unlock. On other cycles the timer counts down and the light indicating the cycle has finished illuminates but the screen doesn’t display anything when it should say end.

Thanks

Tom
