Hi Marko. Unfortunately domestic appliance engineers are not trained in PCB repairs. They have always been taught to just replace the whole board. Of course knowing that the PCB is actually faulty is a different matter and it is always been done with process of elimination in the absence of being able to test any of the parts.

This of course is extremely wasteful, and in my honest opinion I think it is one of the many things that definitely has to stop if they are serious about making white goods appliances last considerably longer.

It suits manufacturers because they sell a lot more boards, and there is very little money to be made in selling diodes and resistors. However, to be fair I doubt very much if that is the reason why this has always been the case. When I first started repairing them in 1976 the only printed circuit boards were small modules about the size of a postcard to control the speed of the motor. Everything else was controlled with mechanical timers.

Having said that, I believe the man who has helped a lot of people with the diode problem that you mentioned (Bob) is the only person that posts here who has proper technical knowledge about the insides of PCBs although they may be some others around. To be honest I doubt that he regularly looks at new posts so you may need to put a link to this new topic at the end of the relevant topic that he follows because he has contributed a lot to it.
