The Washing Machine does not start
A few days ago I used the washing machine, it worked for a minute and then there was a noise, (like a short circuit), and a heavy smell, the washing machine stopped and has not worked since then. The door of the washing machine closes and I can select the programs but when I press the start button it gets stuck. No water no spin just a noise at door when i press start button. help please arctic al1000a+
Solution Summary
AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Arctic AL1000A+ would not start after burning smell; door lock wiring found burnt
- The problem
- The washing machine worked briefly, then there was a short-circuit-like noise and a strong burning smell. After that it would power up enough to select programmes, but pressing Start only produced a noise at the door area, with no water fill or spin. The thread was marked solved.
- Likely cause
- Burnt or shorted door interlock/door lock assembly and connector wiring at the closing system. Other faults were mentioned as possibilities initially, but the later inspection in the discussion strongly points to the door lock area.
- What fixed it
- Recommended repair was to replace the door lock and the white connector, and cut back any hard or burnt wire sections before repairing the wiring if enough length remained. The exact completed repair was not confirmed in the thread.
- Checks to try
- Observed short-circuit-like noise and heavy burning smell during failure
- Machine would allow programme selection but not start
- Pressing Start produced only a noise at the door
- Front panel was removed and damage was found at the door closing system
- Parts or tools mentioned
- door lock
- white connector
Safety: Do not use the machine with wires linked to bypass the door lock. This is dangerous because it defeats the safety interlock. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hi. Something has shorted out or burnt out. Problem is it could be several things. You may also need a specialist insulation test meter to check and troubleshoot.
Could be a capacitor, or suppressor, or the motor or various other things. The only thing I can suggest, if you are competent and determined to look, is to totally disconnect it from the mains and have a good look inside to see if you can see anything obvious, or use nose to track down the source of the burned out smell. Probably need an engineer.

I took off the mask in front of the washing machine and found something like this at the closing system. Could this be the problem? when I started the washing machine, the door closes
Definitely. It would need a new door lock, a new white connector, and all the hard and burned parts of the wires would need cutting away. Hopefully the wires could be pulled through and lengthened, so they can still reach afterwards. This is something that just shouldn't happen, and I've seen reports in the past where they issued a safety notice about this exact same thing - "risk of causing fires".

BTW I've never seen a washing machine like that (the control panel) but it looks like a Hotpoint inside.

I connected the gray wire to the red one and the washing machine starts, can I use it like this for a while?
It's dangerous like that because it bypasses the door lock. The door can be opened at any point during wash and spin.
