Replaced Pump Now No Water Going Into Machine

i have the above washing machine and it recently started makin a funny noise when pumping the water out of the drum. So following the DIY help on here i replaced the pump as it was still making noises after cleaning the filter.

After installing the pump i turned the power back on and noticed a buzzing sound from the main power cable so traced this and fixed the problem (plug wasnt wired up the best).

After fixing that the washing machine only half works, it will spin the drum but it will not pump the water into the washing machine (yes its got a good feed of water, went through the DIY section for about an hour checking everything in it). dont know if the pump is working either but this could be to the fact that theres no water in it.

Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly helpful..

Thanks in advance Jason.

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Washing machine would spin but stopped filling after pump replacement

The problem
After a noisy drain pump was replaced, the washing machine would spin the drum but would not take in water. The original pump had been noisy even after the filter was cleaned. The user also found and corrected a poorly wired plug after noticing buzzing from the mains lead.
Likely cause
The strongest diagnosis in the discussion was a neutral-side fault related to the replacement pump, such as an open-circuit pump or broken neutral connection, which on some machines can prevent the inlet valves from operating. Other suggested possibilities were a kinked fill hose or a faulty water tap if these were disturbed during the repair.
What fixed it
Check whether the pump runs on a spin programme, as it should run even with no water present. Inspect the replacement pump wiring and connections, particularly the neutral side, and also check the fill hose and water tap for restriction or fault. The exact repair was not confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Filter had been cleaned before pump replacement
  • Pump replaced after noisy draining
  • Poorly wired plug was found and corrected after buzzing from the mains lead
  • Water supply feed was said to be good
  • Advised to check whether the pump runs on a spin programme
  • Advised to inspect for a neutral fault/open-circuit at the pump
  • Advised to check for a kinked fill hose
  • Advised to check whether the water tap was faulty
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Drain pump
  • Plug

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hello Jason. If a pump is open circuit or has a broken connection on the neutral side it can stop the water valves from working in some machines. The pump should run whether water is in or not. You need to check if the pump is running on a spin programme or not. It sounds like a neutral fault on the pump side if it stopped taking in water after the pump was replaced. Either that or something daft like a kinked fill hose or the tap faulty if you turned the tap off to work on it.

If none of those pointers help, check this article step by step - water not running into machine
