Indesit Iwc6165 Won't Start - Lights Flashing

I have an Indesit IWC 6165, the machine won't start on any wash cycle. When you power it on all the lights light up then the start light flashes slowly. This continues until you press the start button then the wash cycle chosen light comes on and after about 5 seconds the door locked light starts flashing. The door is not locked and can be opened even though the red light is flashing. Any ideas? I have powered it down for about 15 minutes and retried it.

Indesit IWC 6165 will not start and door lock light flashes

The problem
Indesit IWC 6165 washing machine would not start on any programme. On power-up all lights illuminated, then the start light flashed slowly. After pressing start, the selected wash light came on and about five seconds later the door locked light flashed, but the door did not actually lock and could still be opened.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says the flashing lights may indicate an error code if they flash in a countable pattern with a pause. If there is no repeating flash count, the fault is not clearly identified from the discussion. A possible cause mentioned was an open circuit motor, but this was not confirmed.
What fixed it
Count any repeating flashes before a pause to determine whether the machine is reporting an error code. If the flashing is constant rather than a countable sequence, the accepted advice was that the cause could not be identified from the symptoms alone and the machine should be inspected by an engineer. No completed repair was confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Observed that all lights illuminate on power-up
  • Start light flashes slowly
  • After pressing start, the selected programme light comes on
  • Door locked light begins flashing after about 5 seconds
  • Door does not lock and can still be opened
  • Machine was powered down for about 15 minutes and retried
  • Advice given to count flashes before a pause to see if an error code is being shown

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

The flashing light may be reporting an error code - Washing machine stops with lights flashing - If you can count the number of flashes before a pause and the cycle continues it's an error code. If the flashing is constant then it's not an error code. Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines can go dead, with just lights showing for a number of reasons (without producing an error code). One of which is an open circuit motor but if it's not giving an error code you need to get an engineer to look at it.
