Indesit Wd12 - Can't Reset Programme

Looks like I'm not the only one here with a similar problem! Programme 8 had just finished & it went into the Rinse cycle but I stopped it manually because of a weird noise such as car keys making a rattle in the drum. (That turned out to be a pen-knife.) Now can't reset the programme. I Rang Indesit's "speedy" hotline but after 15 mins still can't get it right.

I was told to turn Programme Selector knob to any Stop/Reset, wait 5 seconds, then turn knob to the Draining symbol, another wait, machine should be reprogrammed. The flashing red light which should disappear in favour of a slow-flashing light, doesn't - it stays fast-slashing. Any ideas would be most gratefully received!

Solution Summary

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Indesit WD12 would not reset after programme interruption

The problem
After programme 8 finished and the machine entered rinse, the cycle was stopped manually because of a rattling noise in the drum, later found to be a pen-knife. The machine then would not reset. The red light continued flashing quickly instead of changing to a slow flash after using the normal stop/reset and drain sequence advised by Indesit.
Likely cause
The thread supports that the machine was stuck in its programme and needed a full reset sequence. No specific internal fault was confirmed. If the reset failed, members advised that the flash count could indicate a fault code, but no code was reported.
What fixed it
Recommended action was to unplug the machine, leave it for a while, then try a reset sequence: turn it off, move the control knob to an off position marked by a dot, turn it on, wait several seconds, turn it off again, move the selector to a spin position, then turn it on so it drains and spins. If unsuccessful, count the flashes and pass the fault code to a repairer. The exact successful repair was not confirmed in the discussion.
Checks to try
  • Red light was flashing quickly rather than slowly
  • Object causing the rattling noise was identified as a pen-knife
  • Advised to unplug the machine and retry the reset sequence
  • Advised to count the number of flashes if reset did not work

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Try unplugging the washing machine, then after a while do the same thing they suggested. To reset an Indesit washing machine if the dial is clicking round -

Turn it off

Move the control knob to a dot (an off position)

Turn it back on

After several seconds, turn it off again

Turn the selector to a spin position

Turn it back on

The washing machine should now drain the water and spin, when it turns off you should be able to use it. If this doesn't work, count the number of flashes which indicate a fault code and report it to your repairman.
