Hi there,I was wondering if anyone can help me diagnose a problem that I'm having with my Hotpiont WDL540 washer/dryer, it is instantly tripping the rcd as soon as the door is closed. By then pulling the green plastic strap under the machine to open the door again and resetting the rcd, the machine comes on fine, but as soon as is closed, it instantly trips again. Is the door switch the faulty part? Many thanks in advance, Suben

It could be many different things from a wire shorting to the frame to the motor. Unless you can see anything obvious you need a proper insulation test meter to trace the fault. There's some help and advice in this article but without a proper meter your options are limited - washer tripping the electrics

Hi there, thanks for that link. I borrowed a friends insul res meter and could only deduce that the fault was not in the cordest as I didnt know how to disconnect the various components to eliminate them. I eventually got a local repairman to come out for a std call out charge of £25 to diagnose the fault. He got here and within 5min had found that the dryer heating element was the culprit. I decided to disconnect the supply to it and use the washer whilst acquiring a new element. It worked&is workIng fine on wash cycles no problem, but with new element fitted,it stalls in drying cycle. The new elemet is fine and is heating up. The lights that illumimate when it stalls are: spin&drying cycle program lights on constantly orange, + Super Wash;Extra Rinse;Mini Load;Slow Spin & Start/Pause lights constantly flashing. Any ideas as to what the flashing lights inducate pls?

Many thanks,Suben

Sorry about that Suben, I don't know what went wrong there but I've fixed the link now.

Hi, thanks for the reply, much appreciated. The link seems to bring me back to my original forum post though, where else can I find the article please. Thanks Suben.
