Hotpoint washer dryer WDL540
My husband has done a drum swop on a washer dyer as the bearings had gone on one machine. We had another machine with a fault which wasn't the drum. After the drum swop the washing machine stops mid cycle and the wash light flashes. The spin works and so does the pump out, but the rinse and spin cycle stops and the wash light flashes again. The water supply is OK and there aren't any kinks in the pipes. We suspect it is something to do with the water going into the machine. The soap isn't being washed out either. The heater went across with the drum swop and the pressure switch and hose. Nothing else. Same drum size and everything fits exactly the same. Any ideas welcome. Thanks

Hotpoint WDL540 stops on rinse with wash light flashing after drum swap
- The problem
- After a drum swap on a Hotpoint WDL540 washer dryer, the machine stopped mid-cycle and the wash light flashed. Spin and pump-out still worked, but rinse and spin stopped with the wash light flashing again. Detergent was not being washed out. The water supply, hoses and siphoning height were said to be okay.
- Likely cause
- Most strongly supported diagnosis was a rinse-fill problem, particularly the cold-water fill path or the inlet valve/solenoid used for rinses. A forum reply noted that if a machine fills on wash but sticks on rinse, it is usually because the rinse water supply is not entering. The exact failed part was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Recommended action was to observe the machine during a rinse cycle and check whether the solenoid/valve supplying rinse water was operating, for example whether it was attempting to open or humming without admitting water. The heater was considered unlikely to be the cause. No completed repair was confirmed in the discussion.
- Checks to try
- Water supply reported okay
- No kinks in the pipes
- Pressure switch and hose were swapped with the drum
- Inlet valve solenoids were meter-tested and reported to have the same reading
- Siphoning tube height was checked
- Advised to observe whether water enters during rinse and whether the rinse solenoid hums/operates
- Parts or tools mentioned
- Water inlet valve solenoids
- Heater
- Pressure switch
- Pressure switch hose
- Meter

Wow that is a big job to tackle. When you say the water supply is okay, is it a hot and cold fill washing machine? And if so have you checked that both the hot and the cold water are going into the washing machine? If it's a hot and cold fill washing machine and it fills up on wash but then sticks on rinse that is usually because the hot water is going in but not the cold.

HI Andy, the washer dryer has a Y connection at the back but is connected to the cold only. My husband has done a drum swop before and hasn't had any problems. He suspects it is the solenoids on the water inlet valves, but when he tested them they all had the same reading on his meter. The only other thing is the heater, but you don't need a heater for the rinse and spin cycle and that does the same thing. It has to be a minor problem as it all seems to lead to lack of water. Siphoning tube for washing machine is at the right height too.
The heater shouldn't stop the valves from working. The valve supplying water on rinses is suspect but if it has the exact same reading as the other valve it tends to imply it is electrically okay at least. You can't rule out a physical problem though. It's a question of observing the washing machine when it is on a rinse cycle and seeing if the solenoid supplying water for the rinse is actually operating or not. Is it humming for example? Implying that it can't get water but it is trying. Or is it just not getting a supply, or not opening to let the water in? If no water is going into the machine try going back to basics and checking through all these possible causes here Washing machine won't fill with water
