my 2 year old Indesit iwc81481eco needs new drum bearings. Now from what I can gather this is a sealed type of drum that means I have to buy a complete new drum and cannot just replace the bearings.

would anyone on the forum be able the confirm this before I part with 100 odd £££. I rang Indesit but the lady I spoke to couldn't confirm either way!!!

Thanks I'm advance for any help.

Yes sadly the majority of washing machines seem to be moving over to sealed tubs (outer drums) which can make them unrepairable by design. Only Miele are guaranteed to have a metal tub which can be stripped down, although some of the others may still have plastic tubs that can be split. If the drum bearings have failed after 2 years then unless you have used it excessively you may be able to claim against the retailer under the sale of goods act. The vast majority of people would say that 2 years life for a washing machine is completely unacceptable unless it's washing a couple of times every day.

Another alternative could be to use the 5 year parts guarantee if you registered for it which should get the manufacturer to fit all the parts with little or no cost difference to buying them. It will still be likely at least £100 though. It's a very big job to replace a tub, especially as some of the new machines don't even have a back panel and the front is welded on so you have to lift the tub out of the lid opening.

Doesn't sound like an economical repair to me. There only £250 new
