I bought a used washing machine today and noticed a strange sound what would appear to be coming from the front bottom right hand corner. It sounds like something rattling around in there and only does it when changing from rinse to spin, after it gets going it does stop.

Any ideas would be appreciated

Bosch Classixx 1200 rattling noise during change from rinse to spin

The problem
A used Bosch Classixx 1200 washing machine makes a rattling noise from the front bottom right-hand area only when changing from rinse to spin. The noise stops once the spin is fully underway.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says the most likely cause is an obstruction inside the pump. A less certain possibility mentioned is that something became dislodged during transit.
What fixed it
Check the pump and pump filter for an obstruction and clean the filter if required. The discussion does not confirm the exact repair carried out or whether the noise was resolved afterwards.
Checks to try
  • Observed that the noise comes from the front bottom right-hand area
  • Noise occurs only when changing from rinse to spin
  • Check the pump
  • Check the pump filter

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

It could be something that has dislodged during transit, but the most likely explanation is that there could be an obstruction somewhere inside the pump. The first thing to do is check the pump and pump filter - How do I clean my pump filter – where is the pump filter?
