Bosch Series 8 washing machine making rubbing noise and poor spin due to worn drive belt
- The problem
- The Bosch Series 8 washing machine was making a strange noise during cycles and was not spinning/wringing clothes properly. The noise could also be reproduced by turning the drum by hand.
- Likely cause
- A worn or damaged drive belt. This was strongly supported because the noise disappeared when the belt was removed and the drum then turned freely and quietly.
- What fixed it
- Disconnect from the mains, remove the belt to isolate whether the noise is from the drum or drive system, inspect for anything catching inside the drum area, and replace the drive belt if worn. In this case fitting a new belt resolved the fault.
- Checks to try
- Noise present when drum turned by hand
- Visual check inside drum for an item protruding through drum holes
- Advice to check whether the drum was catching on the door seal
- Drive belt removed for testing
- Drum spun by hand with belt removed and found quiet/free-moving
- Belt condition inspected
- Parts or tools mentioned
- New drive belt
Safety: Disconnect from the mains before removing or inspecting the belt.

Hi. Does it make this noise when the drum is turned by hand?

Yes!
Could it be something stuck between the inner and outer drum? The first thing I would do is disconnect from the mains and then take off the drive belt. If the noise is still there with the belt off it’s something to do with the drum.
Check there isn’t something like a bra wire poking through one of the holes in the drum.

Thanks for the advice. I have looked carefully inside the drum to see if something is sticking out of one of the drum holes, but nothing found. I have managed to find a specific point which makes the noise when I rotate the drum. I've added another video.

That sounds like rubber. Is the drum catching on the back of the door seal? Check all around.

I have removed the belt, and the drum is moving freely. This is the belt condition. Should I relace it?
Definitely. It could be the source of the rubber noise.

With the belt off, has the noise gone when you spin the drum fast by hand from the front?

Yes, the drum moves nice and quietly.
I will buy tomorrow a new belt and update.
Thanks for the help so far.
Works like magic with the new belt.
