Help! Drum Won't Turn Even When Washer Is Off And Empty!

Hi,

Had the washer on this morning when it started to make a dreadful clunking sound when spinning (it was obviously spinning slowly and struggling). It sounded like I'd put a brick in there by accident! I stopped it and removed the load - nothing untoward, just an average load - but now the drum won't turn at all, even when the washer is off and empty. It still fills/empties as normal when I try a programme.

Please can anyone tell me what's likely to be wrong? The washer is a Hoover 'New Wave' - and 16 years old - so perhaps someone can tell me whether it would be worth repairing? It's done me proud with never a fault so far.

Many thanks!

That's extremely old. Unfortunately many parts are now obsolete. At that age it could be that the motor is finally worn out.

Thanks very much for the reply - I suspected as much! Certainly can't complain about the service it's given me - I doubt Hoover are what they used to be, so it'll most likely be a different make next time - will be interesting to see how long the replacement lasts!

Thanks again.
