[Video] Indesit Iwb 5123 Banging Drum On Spin With Play Front To Back
Hello,
I have a two or three year old Indesit IWB 5123 which suddenly developed this fault. During one of the washings once it entered the spinning cycle the drum started to make a loud banging noise and it stayed like that since then. There is a lot of sideways movement to the point that the drum can hit something behind it.
In this thread one user suggested that a bolt somewhere near the rear weight block may have loosened.
Is this what you think it is?
Here are couple of videos:
* starting the spinning cycle
* front to back movement
Thanks!

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
Indesit IWB 5123 drum bangs on spin with excessive movement
- The problem
- Indesit IWB 5123 developed a sudden loud banging noise on spin. The poster reported a lot of drum movement, including front-to-back play, to the point that it could hit something behind the tub.
- Likely cause
- The accepted reply said the first thing to check is loose drum weights on the outer drum, as these commonly come loose. A loose bolt near a weight block was considered plausible, but the exact failed part was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Isolate the appliance from the power, remove the back panel and lid, then manually move the tub to trace the noise and check for anything loose. The accepted advice was to inspect the drum/outer-tub weights and their fixings, and tighten them only if found loose, taking care not to overtighten because the weights bolt to a plastic outer drum. The exact repair carried out was not confirmed.
- Checks to try
- Disconnected machine from the power
- Removed back panel and lid
- Bounced and shook the tub to locate the noise
- Checked drum/outer-tub weights and fixings for looseness
Safety: Do not overtighten drum-weight fixings, as this can crack the plastic outer drum. Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

With a noise like that you detect what's causing it by disconnecting the machine from the power and taking off the back panel and lid. Then you bounce and shake the tub around and locate where the noise is coming from as well as prodding and poking around for something that is loose. The first thing to check is the drum weights, which are usually bolted to the outer drum at the bottom, at the front and on the top. Some will just have one (usually made of concrete) and some may have two. They commonly come loose. It may be possible to tighten them back up but over-tightening will break the main outer drum (tub) as they are only bolted onto a plastic drum.
