Indesit spins violently and bangs around on the floor
I bought an Indesit washing machine brand new from AO last month. It was installed by them aswell.
It spins violently and bangs around on the floor. I have since adjusted the feet and it sits level with no rocking but still shakes itself crazy.
On an empty load, it spins quietly with no bother, it just cant tolerate clothes! The last machine was never an issue so it can't be the floor.
AO are impossible to contact and their website says contact manufacturer if there is an issue.
There are no transit bolts visible on the back and the drum does move side to side quite freely.
What else can I do? I am tired of having to sit on the machine at 19 and 4 minutes to stop it killing itself !

AI-generated from this discussion
This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.
New Indesit washing machine moves violently on spin with laundry
- The problem
- A brand new Indesit washing machine, installed by the retailer, spins quietly when empty but bangs and moves violently across the floor with clothes in it. The owner levelled the feet and removed rocking, but the problem remained. No transit bolts were visible on the back.
- Likely cause
- The strongest diagnosis in the discussion is incomplete removal of transit packaging, preventing normal drum movement so the whole machine moves during spin. If transit packaging has definitely been removed correctly, the thread suggests either poor grip on a slippery floor or a machine fault, but this was not confirmed.
- What fixed it
- Check the installation instructions/manual and verify that all transit packaging has been removed correctly, not just visible rear transit bolts. If transit packaging is confirmed removed and the machine still jumps violently on normal full loads, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.
- Checks to try
- Feet adjusted so the machine sat level with no rocking
- Observed that the machine spins quietly on an empty load
- Checked the back and found no visible transit bolts
- Advised to confirm all transit packaging removal against the manual
- Advised to note whether the machine is sliding on the floor or actually jumping violently
Safety: Do not continue restraining or sitting on the machine during spin. If installation is correct and the machine still behaves violently, further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Normally I’d instantly suspect transit packaging hasn’t been removed properly. If the drum can’t move up and down and side to side then the whole machine moves around instead.
It’s unusual for a new washing machine to be faulty. I’d double check the transit packaging by checking the instructions on how to remove it in the manual (not necessarily at the beginning) and ensure it’s all been done properly.
If it’s ok then if the machine is just sliding about then it’s not coping with the slippy floor. If it’s actually jumping around violently it may have a fault if you are sure you are putting in good full loads and it still does it in every wash.
