Funny Smell With New Ise
Hi!
I bought a new ISE 4 days ago and have been washing one or two loads each day so far. I'm very happy with the machine so far, I'm only surprised about a funny smell that seems to be coming from the machine. It's difficult to describe the smell, maybe very slightly like burnt plastic, but I'm sure it is not actually burnt plastic. I have had to open the window when using the machine, but I think the smell is not as strong anymore as in the beginning.
Is this normal?
Also, one other thing I have noticed is that small items can get stuck next to the window/door of the machine and when the machine has finished washing these small items are still soaking wet because they didn't spin. This has happened for instance with my baby's sock.
These are just 2 things I noticed, I was wondering whether these were concerns that others have had too?
But I just wanted to emphasize once more that I'm very happy with the machine. It's quieter than the old cheap machine I had before, and the installation was very quick and friendly. Clothes seem cleaner as well.

As Sean says, it may be something that's bedded in and if it's faded now it may be OK, but to be on the safe side I would ring the guy who installed it for you unless it has completely gone away now. I'm sure he'd be happy to advise, he may even pop back and check it out. Funny smells can be hard to describe, and new products sometimes do give off a smell at first, but when anyone mentions the word "burning" it's something I would advise should be checked out unless it's gone away now.
Also, with small items such as baby socks, I would say virtually all washing machines would have similar problems in that they can get stuck in that gap at the front of the drum. The best thing is to put such small items in one of those net wash bags.

I hope the smell has gone from your machine but as Andy said if you use the word burning to describe it then better safe than sorry and get it checked out. Unfortunately our sense of smell detects new ones but after a while it tends to switch off and we think its gone when its still present. A better judge is someone coming into the room from outside and see if they can detect it.

The smell is almost entirely gone now and I think there will be no need to ring the engineer. I'm also using a net now for the small items as you advised.
I just wanted to say once more that I'm overall very happy with my new ISE and that I hope no-one will be put off buying one based on my post here.
Clothes are really cleaner than with my rubbish Indesit machine and dry quicker because there is a higher spin speed on the ISE.
It is also more quiet than my previous machine.
Finally, it's just so much more enjoyable using a quality product!

Hi Mila,
Firstly let me congratulate you on your recent purchase of an ISE Washing machine. With regards to the slight smell from the appliance during its initial washes, this could be simply due to the motor carbons bedding in from new.
You say that this has diminished with use, but should it reoccur then please contact the tel no shown in the instruction booklet that accompanied the appliance.
The very small items of laundry i.e. baby socks, kiddies briefs and such like are best washed in purpose designed small item wash bag or pillow case , as advised by most leading appliance manufacturers.
