Bosch WFL2067GB will rinse and spin but not wash

I have an elderly WFL2067GB that is happy to rinse, spin, freshen up etc but refuses to wash. Starting a cycle results in a brief burst from the inlet valve followed by several minutes of nothing. After that, the Rinse LED flashes which, according to the manual means water isn't getting in. It will rinse etc so I know the water supply and inlet valve are fine.

I had a thought that possibly it was trying to heat up a small amount of water as a self-test but replacing the heater did not help. Could it be the thermostat in the same unit?

All suggestions welcome. I've replaced the machine with a spare Aquarius from the garage (never throw anything away, although that one needed a motor) so time is not of the essence. I've swapped so many carbon brushes on the Bosch I've become quite attached to it and would like to keep it running.

It sounds like a water valve isn't letting water in? Is it a hot and cold fill machine? Normally a washing machine will fill with water using one valve for several seconds to flush water into the sump hose. Then it will switch to another valve to flush detergent into the machine. If this valve is faulty or has some other issue (including no water supply) then many washing machines will stick.

Thanks again. I'll do some dismantling over the weekend.

Yes even cold fill only washing machines often have more than one solenoid in. Some can have double or even triple solenoid valves and one can fail leaving others working ok. You should be able to test the individual solenoids with a continuity test meter. They should all have the same reading. They have a very high resistance.

Thanks Andy. It's a cold-only machine so I guess the obvious candidate is the detergent valve. I'll check that out.
