Indesit 126 Not Working

Hi,

I Have an Indesit IWME 126 Machine that has decided to stop working. It appears to have 'frozen' in that the green light at 4H is lit up and the door lock lit up but doesnt do anything. If left for several hours I have came back and seen the door lock light flashing but nothing else. I checked the filter and appears clean enough. The other unusual thing is that when I switch off at the wall to release the door lock - I switched it back on and when i closed the door it spins very quickly for a couple seconds and then return to the frozen state.

Is this an issue with the brushes? I have tried to change the settings to spin only incase its an issue with the water but doesnt do anything - the hoses appear to be connected ok and no obvious issue there.

Thanks for any help.

Michael

Carbon brushes on some Hotpoint and Indesit models (or a different fault on the motor) can cause the washing machine to go dead with some of the light still functioning. So it's definitely a possibility. However if the washing machine spins quickly for a couple of seconds this would imply that the motor is functioning. So unless the motor makes strange crackling or grating sound when it spends which might indicate excessive sparking than the motor may well be okay. If the motor spins fairly fast and then stops there is a possibility that there is something wrong with the tacho coil or the tacho magnet on the end of the motor. Alternatively it could be various other things so unless you can see something obvious I would get in an appliance engineer.

Yes I would suspect worn carbon brushes in the motor if it is sparking and flashing.

Thanks for your answer. When I switched it back on tonight after closing the door it did the same very quick spin for a few seconds then cut out but I noticed a flash of light underneath - I assume from the motor, does this help at all with what the issue might be?
