Indesit washing machine drum turns then stops

Hi All,

Our Indesit 6125s has just failed. It currently fills but when the wash cycle starts the drum turns about 180 degrees then stops. It repeats this a couple of minutes later then just sits there with no error codes. I can drain the machine but starting from the beginning of a wash cycle produces the same symptoms with or without load. Setting to a spin cycle does not work either. Even though the machine drains I have found some sludge in the drain pipe, could this be causing the fault?

Check the carbon brushes

A problem with the drain would leave washing machine full of water. It wouldn’t stop the motor from turning, only from kicking into a fast spin. If the motor is struggling to turn it’s likely to be worn brushes at that age. However it also could be caused by faults on the pcb.

Hi Andy,

Many thanks for your reply, I haven't checked the brushes yet just wanted to eliminate easy fixes first. The machine is 10 years old and has had quite heavy use, if the brushes are the most likely culprit I'll probably replace rather than repair. Just wanted to make sure that a reduced flow drain pipe wouldn't cause this fault.
