Just keep pressing the on/off button until the lights turn blue.. Kept trying everything and that seems to do it

It sounds like you may have found a temporary way of clearing a fault or resetting the control, but I’d be a bit cautious about relying on that alone.

1. Check whether it is actually resetting properly If the machine starts and completes a full wash normally afterwards, you may simply be rebooting the electronics. If it only works after repeated button presses, that usually points to an underlying fault rather than a proper reset procedure.

2. Note exactly what the lights are doing On Indesit washing machines, the pattern of flashing or illuminated lights can help narrow down the problem. If the lights “turn blue” and then the machine behaves normally, note what happens before and after that point.

3. Try a proper power reset Switch the washing machine off, unplug it from the mains for 10–15 minutes, then plug it back in and try again. This is a safer and more reliable reset than repeatedly pressing the on/off button.

4. Watch for repeat symptoms If the machine keeps needing this trick, check for common causes such as a door lock issue, drainage problem, or a sticking button on the fascia.

5. Don’t force the controls Repeated pressing can sometimes stress a faulty switch or control board, especially if the panel is already playing up.

Isolate the appliance from the mains before inspecting any internal parts. If the problem keeps returning, the next step is proper fault diagnosis, and any mains electrical testing should be done by a qualified appliance engineer.

Safety first — read before actioning advice

  • Never work on a live appliance

Always unplug it at the mains before going near it with any tools.

  • Never attempt gas work

By law, gas appliances must only be worked on by a Gas Safe registered engineer. If your fault involves gas, stop and call a professional — do not attempt it yourself.

  • Watch for sharp edges

Outer panels are smooth, but internal parts are full of sharp machined edges. Wear protective gloves and arm sleeves.

  • Water appliances can leak

Turn off the water supply before disconnecting any hoses.

  • Know your limits

If you're not confident testing or working inside the appliance, STOP and call a professional.
