Indesit IWDD7143 washer dryer shows F13 during drying

The problem
On an Indesit IWDD7143 washer dryer, the drying cycle stops with F13 and flashing lights. The user reported fitting a new thermostat, the fan was spinning, and the clothes in the drum were hot, indicating the heater was operating.
Likely cause
The accepted reply says F13 on several Indesit washer dryers points to a dryer-section NTC fault, though some explanations also include a possible fan motor fault. Based on the reported heating and the fault appearing after the dryer has run for a while, overheating was considered more likely, with a probable airflow blockage or possibly lack of cold water for condensing if the fan and NTC are not at fault.
What fixed it
Recommended action was to investigate the dryer-section NTC, confirm fan operation, and check for a blockage preventing air circulation. The accepted reply also suggested considering insufficient cold water supply for condensing. The exact repair carried out was not confirmed in the discussion.
Checks to try
  • New thermostat already fitted
  • Fan reported as spinning
  • Clothes in drum reported hot
  • Fault occurs after drying has been on for a while
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Thermostat
  • NTC thermistor
  • Fan motor

Several Indesit washer dryers use F13 error code to indicate a fault on the NTC dryer section. I have an article on these parts here NTC thermistors. However, some of the F13 error code explanations are less also implicate a possible fan motor fault.

If the clothes are getting hot and the dryer gives the error code after it has been on for a while it tends to imply that it is overheating. But if the fan is running okay and the NTC is not faulty that really just leaves a potential blockage stopping the fan from circulating air or possibly even a lack of cold water to condense the hot steam.
