Please help. Miele washing machine will not spin when hose is connected to the drain - check drain light comes on but this is clear. It will spin when I pull the machine out and place hose directly over the sink. Hope someone can guide me in fixing this. Many thanks for reading..... Teresa

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Miele washer spins only when drain hose is emptied into sink

The problem
The Miele washing machine brings on the check drain light and will not spin when its drain hose is connected to the household drain. It will spin normally when the hose is placed directly over a sink.
Likely cause
The strongest diagnosis in the thread is a blockage or restriction at the household drain connection, such as the plastic spigot or the u-bend. A new-installation issue was also suggested: the blanking bung or plastic disc in the spigot connection may not have been removed.
What fixed it
Inspect and clear the drain connection point the hose attaches to, particularly the spigot and u-bend. If this is a new installation, check whether a transport blanking bung or plastic disc is still present in the drain spigot. The thread was marked solved, but no final confirmation of the exact repair was posted.
Checks to try
  • Observed that the machine would not spin and showed the check drain light when connected to the drain
  • Observed that the machine would spin when the hose was placed over the sink
  • Check for a blockage inside the plastic spigot or u-bend
  • Check whether a plastic/rubber bung or plastic disc is still fitted in the spigot connection

Hi. If the drain hose pushes onto a plastic spigot or connects directly to the u-bend then it sounds like there’s a blockage inside there.

Sounds like a new installation?

Check also, if the spiggot style connector, that the little plastic/rubber bung in the spiggot has been removed. If a screw on spiggot, sometimes a plastic disc inside the screw attatchment.
