Hi guys newbie here, my washing machine seems to of developed a possible door lock fault, the alarm goes off and it won't operate unless I press firmly on the door and hold, it'll then work, I suspect a catch, but thought I check before ordering the part, any ideas?

Thanks in advance 👍

AI-generated from this discussion

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Indesit INNEX XWA 81682X W UK only starts when pressure is held on the door

The problem
The washing machine alarm sounds and it will not operate unless firm pressure is applied to the door and held closed. The original poster suspected a door lock or catch issue.
Likely cause
Most strongly supported diagnosis is that the door is not engaging the door lock properly. The accepted reply says this could be due to the door catch being broken or loose, or the door seal being slightly detached from the outer rim and preventing proper closure. A faulty door lock was not confirmed.
What fixed it
Check that the door seal has not come away from the door outer rim and is not stopping the door closing fully. Check that the door catch which operates the lock is not broken or loose. The accepted reply also suggested spraying a little WD-40 into the door lock opening. Exact repair was not confirmed in the thread.
Checks to try
  • Machine operates when firm pressure is applied to the door
  • Check whether the door seal has come slightly detached from the door outer rim

Hello Stevie. Yes you are right to realise that a successful operation of the door lock relies not only on the door lock not being faulty but also the door catch and door actually operating it properly. Things to watch out for is if the door seal has come slightly detached from the door outer rim at any point. That can stop the door from closing properly. It's also worth trying spraying a bit of WD-40 inside the door lock opening.

Other than that checked that the door catch that operates the door lock is not broken or loose.
