Indesit Drum Cracked

Hello there!

I own a IWME 27 washing machine by Indesit. I have the S/N if necessary.

Attached pictures of the problem + video:

Issues started appearing when the machine was loaded with probably too many bedsheets. I wonder if the cracking was caused by this.

Thank you

This thread was marked as solved. Here's a summary of the problem and the fix, generated from the discussion below.

Indesit IWME 27 outer drum cracked and leaking

The problem
An Indesit IWME 27 washing machine developed cracking and leaking around the drum area after a load of bedsheets. The damage shown was described as the back of the outer drum being cut into.
Likely cause
The accepted diagnosis was severe mechanical damage to the outer drum. The forum explanation was that this is typically caused either by an object getting inside and being dragged around the back of the drum, or by excessive play from worn or faulty drum bearings and/or drum wear allowing the inner drum to cut into the outer drum. The exact cause was not confirmed.
What fixed it
A temporary repair was attempted with Plastic Aid, which reduced the main leak, but multiple small leaks remained. The machine was considered beyond economical repair and was written off. The owner replaced it with a Bosch washing machine.
Checks to try
  • Visual evidence of cracking and leaking was provided by pictures and a video
  • Forum diagnosis noted possible excessive drum and/or bearing play
  • Forum diagnosis noted the possibility of an object trapped inside the drum area
Parts or tools mentioned
  • Plastic Aid
  • Bosch washing machine

Safety: Further diagnosis should be carried out by a suitably qualified appliance engineer.

Hi. I would say that's a write-off. It can only be caused if either something gets inside and gets dragged around the back of the drum cutting into the back of the outer drum, or when the drum and/or bearings have excessive play due to wear or a fault, and allow the back of the revolving inner drum to cut into it.

Thank you Andy

While the Plastic Aid was able to solve the main leak, there were so many little ones that it made to write-it-off. I bought a Bosch washing machine, it'll arrive in the next couple of days.

I was very pleased to find out about PlasticAid - great tool! take care
