Power Cuts off Mid Cycle - Slam to Restart

Hi all,

Bought a house about 18 months ago, the previous owners bought a washing machine (AEG, 800 pounds from John Lewis. Receipts and invoice given to us. High spec machine / washer / dryer) 1 year prior to them selling the house. So the washing machine is just over around 2 and a half years old, close to three years anyway. (warranty was only for 2 years).

Recently we've noticed at least once a week it randomly shuts off during or at the later stages of a cycle and refuses to turn back on unless I slam the door really hard.

Just wondering if anyone had similar issues? What shall we do?

I rang a couple of repair men around the area and one suggested it may be the "power circuit"? And it would be best to call AEG and have them repair.

I rang AEG and they have a 165 pound fixed repair fee. They come out. Do the job (as long as it doesn't exceed 500 pounds in repair costs) and hopefully that's sorted. If they can't fix the problem, we lose the 165 pounds and we're back to square one (apprehensive about going down this route.....)

Any thoughts or tips? Advice? Would appreciate it.

Also legally or with AEG, do we have any leg to stand on when it comes to it only being 3 years old at best? Sadly as I say, the warranty did run out...

Cheers,

Hi. If it comes on when you slam the door I would suspect a possible faulty door lock or connection there?

Regarding repair charges those prices are crazy. We’ve reached the stage now where it’s just not worth repairing them unless you can do it yourself or have a friendly local engineer.

Regarding any consumer rights there are none against the manufacturers only the retailers.

Also with a washing machine cutting out always try a totally different wall socket first.

Also just to note, we have tried replacing amp's in the plug and also different plugs. Still the same issue every week or so.
